I just attended a big celebration for a good friend’s 40th birthday. I knew that I’d want to capture the event with my camera, both as a gift to the birthday girl and so we could all relive the party through photos.
Shooting at night, in a low-lit house is very tricky. And, because I decided I didn’t want to blind guests with my flash, I had to tweak the camera settings quite a bit to go flash-less. I got some grainy, some blurry, and some shadows, but overall, I believe the photos were successful. They certainly captured the fun and high spirits of the party.
I took a lot of photos…almost 300. I tried to get a “Cheers to Emily” beauty shot of every guest as well as some candid shots of people laughing, mingling and the like. I also took a picture of the birthday girl’s discarded stilettos and her “Cougar on the Prowl” button. Obviously, I took a lot of the birthday girl at every stage of the party.
Event photography truly is a wonderful way to make memories last.
